I spent a few days last week in Los Angeles. It has some crazy traffic, as most of you already know, but having a passable car makes it a little more bearable. My car this time was a 2014 Kia Soul in white, which turned out to be a blessing since it was averaging 100 degrees in Southern California. A white car makes life a little bit better on some occasions.
Overall the new Kia Soul is a pretty good car. It's not an enthusiast car, but it's not bad to drive as a daily driver. It has respectable performance and it has a pretty nice ride. I did take it up on Mulholland Drive and it's not a canyon carver, but it did well enough.
2014 saw some mild styling updates to the Soul. The interior is a little more conservative, but it is comfortable. I'm glad to report the air conditioning worked very well. Kia's take on Ford's horrible Sync is much better than the engineers in Dearborn could manage. It works very well indeed. I had a 2013 Soul a few months back and it wouldn't power my iPhone 5, but the 2014 worked just fine.
The Kia Soul provides solid seemingly transportation. For a rental car, it is becoming one I look forward to driving, particularly since company policy is renting a compact or economy car.
